Visits of Prospective Parents

If your child is to be starting school for the first time in August, there will be an opportunity for you to come in with your child to visit the Primary 1 teacher and classroom before the start of the summer holidays.

In addition, parents of prospective P1 pupils are invited to attend an information evening to meet the Primary 1 Teacher and the Head Teacher.  At this meeting parents will be informed of general structure of the curriculum within the school and other details relating to the pupil's school day.

The P1 teacher will deal more specifically with the variety of works and topics that will be encountered by the pupils during their first year at school.

If your child is transferring from another school a mutually convenient time can be arranged to meet the Head Teacher and view the school.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Inverkeilor School has a uniform which we actively encourage all pupils to wear.  This comprises of a school sweatshirt with badge which is available from the office and can be worn with either a red or white collared T. Shirt, a navy pullover/cardigan, a white shirt/blouse with a red and navy tie, a navy skirt or dark trousers.  Gym kit comprises of T shirt and gym shoes in a bag with pupil’s name.  All clothing brought to school should be named or marked in some way, as it is difficult for children to distinguish their own clothing from others.  The Executive Menswear shop in the pedestrian precinct in Arbroath holds stocks of our school tie, the cost of which is £2.99.

TRANSPORT

The school is served by two contract buses.  One of these picks up pupils at Auchmithie before picking up more pupils en route to Inverkeilor.  The other collects pupils from the Lunan area.  Both buses leave the school at 3.20 p.m. on their return journeys.

The Authority will provide transport for primary school pupils living over 2 miles from their delineated area schools.  Bus passes are issued to pupils where suitable public transport exists, and contract transport is arranged where there is no suitable public transport.  Vacant seats on contract vehicles may be allocated to pupils on a concessionary basis.

Where a parent who resides less than two miles from the delineated area primary school considers that on grounds of safety the journey to school is unreasonable for her/his child to undertake when accompanied by a responsible adult, she/he may apply to the Director of Education for consideration to be given to the provision of transport.  This applies only where no suitable public transport is available.

Application forms are available from the school office, from Angus Council, Education Department, County Buildings, Market Street, Forfar, DD8 3WE, Tel: 08452 777778 or can be found on-line at:

http://www.angus.gov.uk/atoz/formlistfull.cfm

The Education Committee may also consider requests for transport involving exceptional circumstances.

EMERGENCY CLOSURES

In the event of the school having to close due to an emergency e.g. adverse weather conditions putting pupils at risk, heating failure etc., the procedure is as follows: -

In the event of an emergency closure outwith school hours an announcement will be made in the morning on Radio Tay, updated on the Tay Connect Information System 08700 500 232, Selection One.  During office hours the Council’s Access Line 0845-277 7778 (low call rate) will provide update information.  Additional information is available on www.angus.gov.uk

In case of an emergency, if effective arrangements are to be made, it is essential that the school has up-to-date information from parents regarding such things as changes in employer, telephone number, new emergency contact etc.

In whole school emergency situations, updated information will be left on the school’s telephone answering machine (where applicable).

ABSENCES

In the event of your child being ill please telephone the school before 9.45am, send a letter or call in at the school to explain the absence.  Parents will be aware of their legal responsibility to ensure that their child attends school regularly and that they should inform the school in writing of the reason for any absence.  Repeated cases of non-attendance without valid reason may involve the Attendance Officer and the Local Authority.  The school is obliged to record all authorised and non-authorised absences.  The school is obliged to maintain a target attendance of 96% throughout each session.  We particularly request that parents, wherever possible, do not arrange family holidays, or days outings, during the school term.
